We Care LK Food Bank is a Community based Voluntary
Organisation which was set up when a group of volunteers met and a Committee
was formed in August 2014 to meet the emerging social needs of families and
individuals in County Donegal. The group acquired premises in Letterkenny and
the first parcels of Food were distributed in December 2014. The Food Bank has
gone from strength to strength and at present cater for between 20-30 families
per week. The food bank is an intervention service to help families/
individuals in crisis for a limited period of time.

The Food Bank works in partnership with Community
Organisations who identify people in need and refer them to the Food Bank. We
work on a Food Vouchers System with the various Community Organisations. The Food
Bank is run by volunteers who collect, store and distribute food to individuals
and families. The Food Bank is stocked by the Community who donate Food
Supplies in local Supermarkets and the Community Centre and by running Food
Drives. We Care Food Bank also work with Food Cloud by collecting
surplus food in a local supermarket on a daily basis and distribute this food
to families in need thus eliminating Food Waste. Our aim is to
provide good quality nutritious food to those in need and to pioneer the
development of community driven services. The We Care Committee run
various fundraising events throughout the year i.e. Food Drives, Bag Packs, Tea
Party, Table Quiz, treasure hunt, Street Collection and 5K Walk/Fun Run. We also
distribute food to a Community based group in Gweedore who then distribute the
food to families in this area. The vision of We Care is to expand
the service throughout Donegal with the help and support of the local
communities.
