The project has been established since 1991 when a committee of twelve people drawn from Croaghan Heights housing estate came together to form what is now the Lifford/Clonleigh Resource Centre. Frustrated by neglect, lack of resources and facilities in the area, the Committee were keen to work towards making Lifford a better place in which to live.
In 1992, the project was included in the Community Development Programme, funded by the Department of Social Welfare, assisting groups to staff and equip local Resources Centres. The project is managed by a voluntary management committee, people from the local community who give their time on a voluntary basis to ensure that the work carried out by the project meets with the needs of the local community. Since December 2010 the centre is no longer Core Funded under the National Community Development programme. It is an independent project generating income from many non-government sources to ensure its sustainability.
