The Burren Lowlands CLG was formed in 2015 with a bold concept: to unite the South Galway/ North Clare region into a better place to live, work, and visit, following a 2014 CEDRA report that highlighted the area as the most deeply affected by the 2008 economic downturn.
By focusing on three pillars, Tourism, Enterprise, and Community, the group has successfully sought and used inward investment from the government, the EU, and private enterprise to deliver on a number of projects. Going forward, Burren Lowlands CLG will source additional investment by building on the identity of the region, its unique landscape, quality of life, and literary and cultural heritage as well as the success of previous endeavours.
Rural revival, community energy, engagement, and integrity are the keywords that guide Burren Lowlands CLG’s efforts. By working with local groups Burren Lowlands aims to support and value the contribution of our diverse community. across the region. The past few years have shown Burren Lowlands CLG that community development can be an exciting opportunity for local volunteers with a wide range of skills.
